The last tournament of the “west coast swing” is the Genesis Invitational played at Riviera in southern California. 9 of top 10 players in the world are here this week including Tiger (tourney host), Brooks, Rory, Rahm, JT and DJ. Overall, 19 of the top 25 golfers are in the field making it the best of the year. Last year’s winner was JB Holmes (-14) beating out JT (-13). Three time tournament winner Bubba Watson and two time winner Phil Mickelson are also in the field showing that driving distance will certainly help on this course.

The Riviera Course Layout
Par 3’s: 236, 199, 192, 166
Par 4’s: 471, 434, 434, 408, 433, 458, 315, 479, 459, 487, 475
Par 5’s: 503, 583, 590
Riviera is a scorable course with winners able to reach double digits under par for the winner most years. The first par 3 will test player’s long irons as 236 yards. The 199 yard par 3 6th is infamous for having a bunker in the middle of the green; this means if you miss to the wrong side, you might be chipping and not putting from the actual green (or putting around the trap altogether like below).
The first par 5 (and hole) is an easy one followed by two longer par 5s that might be tough to get to in 2 at 583 and 590 yards. The back 9 starts off with a reachable par 4 10th (315 yards) but the bunker-surrounded green certainly has a risk-reward factor. The course looks to setup well for long drivers and the better long iron players.
