A pretty impressive field this week in Houston at Memorial Park this year compared to years past. This is the first year the Houston Open will be played at Memorial Park and also the first year it’ll be the week before the Masters. Dustin Johnson is the betting favorite at +750 while other big names include Tyrrell Hatton (+1600), Brooks Koepka (+2000), Tony Finau (+2000), Hideki Matsuyama (+2000), Scottie Scheffler (+2200), Viktor Hovland (+2500), Sungjae Im (+2800) and Francesco Molinari (+15000).

With it being the first year at Memorial Park there is no event history. A much weaker field, Lanto Griffin won the Houston Open in 2019 at -14. Harrington and Hubbard are both in Houston again this year after sharing second last year. Zhang, Gooch, Straka, Ortiz, Cink, and McCarthy all finished inside the top 10 last year and are playing in Houston again. Finishing inside the top 10 will be much tougher for these golfers this year.

Tier Picks (DK Pricing)

Tony Finau 10900

Finau is the pick in the 10k and above range this week. Tony Finau comes in this week at #15 in our overall stat model. He came in ranking #6 in par 5 scoring and #64 in the field for birdie or better percentage. Finau also ranks #33 in the field for strokes gained off the tee and #12 for strokes gained approach. There aren’t too many options in the 10k and above range this week and it basically came down to Finau and DJ. Finau looked good at the Zozo and DJ is coming off a long break, I like Finau’s chances this week.

Scottie Scheffler 9600

Scheffler is the pick in the 9k range this week. Scheffler comes in this week at #13 in our overall stat model. He came in ranking #19 in par 5 scoring and #30 in the field for birdie or better percentage. Scheffler also ranks #3 in the field for strokes gained off the tee and #58 for strokes gained approach. Scheffler’s a Texas guy and who doesn’t love the local narrative. His form has been hot and cold since coming back from Covid but this is a course he should play well at.

Cameron Davis 8100

Davis is the pick in the 8k range this week. Davis comes in this week at #5 in our overall stat model. He came in ranking #9 in par 5 scoring and #3 in the field for birdie or better percentage. Davis also ranks #24 in the field for strokes gained off the tee and #38 for strokes gained approach. A lot of reasons why we like Scheffler are the same reasons we like Davis; long off the tee, makes a lot of birdies, showed some good form in recent events, etc. Price seems good for Davis which should mean he’ll likely be a little chalky but fine eating some of that this week.

Sam Burns 7500

Burns is the pick in the 7k range this week. Burns comes in this week at #8 in our overall stat model. He came in ranking #32 in par 5 scoring and #19 in the field for birdie or better percentage. Burns also ranks #1 in the field for strokes gained off the tee and #55 for strokes gained approach. Bermuda Burns at 7500 should be another popular play this week. He’s hitting the ball well off the tee and making birdies. He’s got a lot of upside in the 7k range in this field.

Will Gordon 6400

Gordon is the pick in the 6k range this week. Gordon comes in this week at #10 in our overall stat model. He came in ranking #13 in par 5 scoring and #9 in the field for birdie or better percentage. Gordon also ranks #5 in the field for strokes gained off the tee and #82 for strokes gained approach. Gordon had a great opening 9 last week and managed to survive Friday to make his second cut in his last three events. He should be able to make enough birdies to make get to the weekend and that’s all you can ask for at 6400.
