2020 WGC-Mexico Rounds 1 & 2 Recap

Date Published: Friday, 2/21/20

Yesterday it seemed crazy to pick anyone but Rory, but he slowed down with just a 2-under round of 69 today. Bryson (-11), EVR (-9), Reed (-10), and Deki (-9) shot 63, 62, 63, and 64 respectively to lead the way.

Notables: JT (-9), Rory (-8), Bubba (-3), Rahm (-1), Speith (+5), DJ (+5)

Less wind today allowed for players to take aim with their wedges as scores got a lot lower. Bryson’s putter was white hot for a stretch of 7+ holes which took him to the top of the leaderboard. If you’re hitting multiple 20+ footers, you’ll be taught to beat. EVR and Reed are lurking one stroke back but a lot can change over the next 36 holes.

The top six odds are all 600+ or lower, so no reason to invest your money there. The next tier presents some value: Paul Casey -5 (+6600), Tyrrell Hatton -5 (+8000), and Sebastian Munoz – 5 (+12500).

Broken record here, but no need to toss money down the gutter until the odds seems right, a lot of golf left to be played.
